Session 3: Safety and the Supervisor
The supervisor is the one person who can take immediate, direct action to ensure that the work area is safe for all employees. In fact, as the person who works most closely with employees, the supervisor bears the greatest responsibility and accountability for implementing the safety program.
Through class discussion and group exercises, participants will learn about the importance of leadership that supports safe behaviors and conditions in the workplace:
- The costs and benefits of taking corrective safety action;
- The five general safety supervision responsibilities outlined in OAR 437-001-0760;
- Employer responsibilities – demonstrating leadership, providing resources, training, oversight and accountability.
