The Oregon Workplace Fairness Act was passed to address sexual harassment in the workplace, but the final law also addresses discrimination and harassment, and includes provisions that will have a significant impact on employers.

The Act significantly extends the statute of limitations for most employee related discrimination and harassment claims and allows all previously related acts of discrimination and harassment outside the statute of limitations period to be considered when at least one act has occurred during the statute of limitations period.
Additional provisions prohibit employers from entering into certain kinds of non-disclosure or non-disparagement agreements.
The Act also mandates specific policy language, which will require employers to review and revise their current policies on discrimination and harassment, as well as, and train managers, supervisors, and HR personnel on the new rules.
UEA Employment & Labor Law Attorney, Matt Kennedy, and UEA’s Training Expert, Paul Spindel, are teaming up to make sure our Members are prepared!
Matt will cover the legal obligations and challenges this law places on Oregon employers and review how your company can best comply with the requirements of the new law.
Paul will delve into how your company can develop and enhance a culture of respect. Complying with the law is fundamental, but developing a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect is a choice employers should be making for the betterment of their organization. Paul will review harassment and discrimination law, offer exercises to test your knowledge, and discuss diversity, equity and inclusion and its place in your organization.
Attend this workshop to understand:
- Changes in the Statute of Limitations period and when they go into effect;
- Prohibitions and exceptions for Employment Agreements;
- Types of Interactions that are covered under the new Act;
- Policy language and distribution requirements;
- Document retention considerations; and
- How to incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion in your workplace
